WRITING

ACTIVITY 1

1. Name different alternatives to save the planet. Use conditional sentences as in the example.

Example: If you recycle paper, you will save forests

ACTIVITY 2

A Newspaper report:
HALF A MILLION PEOPLE LOSE THEIR HOMES IN INDIA
                               Tony Slater in New Delhi
Floods in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh are the worst in fifty years. Water now covers over 5,000 hectares of farmland. The cause of the floods is high rainfall. Twenty-four centimetres of rain fell in just twenty-four hours.
The worst damage is near the coast at Guntur. Half a million have lost their homes. The river Krishna, normally one hundred metres wide, is now over two kilometres wide. The flood water has destroyed roads, bridges and railway lines, and the area is now almost inaccessible. Helicopters and boats have rescued hundreds of people from buildings and trees, and the rescue operation is continuing. But the people need clothes, food and clean water urgently.

2. Now read these notes about the earthquake in Murcia and write a newspaper report.

PROJECT

ACTIVITY 1

In groups design an ecological advert using the first conditional as in the example. Then present it to the rest of your classmates.

Ex: If you recycle paper, you will save forests

ACTIVITY 2

Do some research! Look for information about famous people and NGOs ecologically concerned. How do they contribute to save the planet?
